Obituary for Randall "Randy" Newsom

Randy was born to Terry and Winifred Newsom (nee, Field) on June 17,1950, in Council Bluffs, IA. The family moved to MN in the early 1950’s making their home in the Burnsville area.
Randy graduated from Lakeville High School in 1968, and began his career as a tool and die maker. In 1979, he was hired by Republic Airlines (currently, Delta Airlines) as a baggage handler. Randy remained with the airlines until his retirement in 2007, eventually adding customer service agent and supervisor to his role.
On May 31,1980, he married Lynette (Lynn) Feigh. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Kayla, Derek, and Brittany. Randy and Lynn moved frequently in the early years, making their home in Lakeville, MN, Grand Rapids, MN, Dayton, OH, and Mound, MN; eventually landing in La Crescent, MN in 1987.
Randy was an extremely talented handyman who could build or fix almost anything. Our family motto was “If Papa can’t fix it, nobody can.” He loved tinkering in his garage and at the time of his death was rebuilding not one, but three, motorcycles.
Every fall meant duck hunting, a passion he passed on to his son and his oldest grandson, Javon. He especially enjoyed playing practical jokes on his brother, Jim, while hunting with him and his best friend, David.
A very independent man, Randy was devastated when his medical conditions made it so he was no longer able to do all of the things that he loved. He entered hospice care in early June of this year.
Randy is survived by his wife, Lynn; his three children, Kayla Newsom, Derek (Morgan Armstrong) Newsom, and Brittany (Tevin “Moe” Johnson) Newsom; his six grandchildren, Alexis “Lexi” (Caleb Bushek) Newsom-Baker, Javon, Micah, and Tavares (TJ) Williams, Lennon Newsom, and Zoerelle Jackson; he is further survived by his brother, Jim; his niece, Amber; and dearest friends, David and Susie Ostlund and Chuck and Diane Foerster.
He was preceded in death by his father, Terry; mother, Winnie; brother, Monte; and numerous special dogs including his biggest buddy, Zeus.
Randy was a very private person so a public celebration of life is not planned at this time. Please feel free to honor Randy’s life by watching a show about Bigfoot, aliens, WWII, or a Hallmark Christmas movie.
