Obituary for Helen Lorraine Cooper

Helen Lorraine Cooper, a longtime resident of Bangor, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Lakeview Health Center at the amazing age of 99 ½. Helen was born on June 25, 1926, to Levi and Edna Berger in Galesville, WI.

She raised her three daughters in Bangor, WI and worked several jobs throughout her life including her favorite job at Rain Drain, which she retired from. You could find her walking around town and being a dedicated Bangor Cardinal fan as she attended her grandchildren and great-children’s many different sporting and school events over the years.

She loved to be active and involved with as much as she could. She always made sure to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Her family was blessed with her willingness to always help when she could, to welcome you into her home when you needed it, and making sure you were always fed, many times with her delicious baked goods.

Helen said she wanted to live to 100, and she almost accomplished it. She was Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Great-Great-Grandma, and was one of the kindest, most loving people God ever created. Her family was always her top priority. She enjoyed spending time with all of us. She was the rock of our family, and everyone loved and cherished her. She will always be deeply missed. We are so lucky to have had her in our lives. She set an example for all of us to live up to. The world was a better place with her in it. We love you so much mom, and we will meet again in heaven.

Helen is survived by her three daughters, Betty (Larry) Elliott of Hatfield, WI, Patti Kendhammer of West Salem, WI, and Tammy (Tim) Gamroth of Bangor, WI; as well as her sister, Barb Suhr of West Salem, WI; grandchildren, Jeff Elliott (Deb) and Brenda (Chad) Leis of Hatfield, WI, Shane (Jenni) Kendhammer and Sheila Kendhammer (Craig) of Bangor, WI, and Mallorie (Jim) Gran and Jacie Gamroth of La Crosse, WI.

Helen was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren: great-grandchildren, Savanna, Justin, Sierra, Jade, Brock, Bradley, Brianna, Noah, Andrew, Leah, Bradyn, and Makai and great-great-grandchildren, Jack, Grace, Payten, Raelynn, Jamesen, Mason, Maddi, Evelyn, Jaxson, Everlee, Wesley, Bennett, Eleanor, and Madelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ansel Berger; sister, Marion Hickman; sister-in-law, Carolyn Berger; niece, Rhonda (Cassel) Adkins; nephew, Paul Simpson; and great-nephew, Kurt Servais.

A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
