Obituary for Sidney Myhre
Sidney Alton Myhre, age 100, of Caledonia, Minnesota, died peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN of natural causes on Saturday, December 20, 2025, with his son David at his side.
Sidney was born on September 13, 1925, to Styrk and Amanda (Lybeck) Myhre. He grew up and lived on the Myhre home farm in rural Caledonia for 100 years.
He attended school at the Rask schoolhouse on the edge of his farmland. This is where he met his wife, Marion (Albee) Myhre. They married at Caledonia United Methodist Church on June 29, 1947. Their marriage of 73 years was full of love and dedication to one another.
Farming was Sidney’s life. He took great pride in keeping his farm in tip top condition. His dairy cows were his passion. He didn’t trust anyone milking his cows but him. He started raising pigs to diversify and won many awards at the county fair. His brother Dean took over the pig operation when Sidney and Marion bought the home farm and Styrk and Amanda moved to the farm across the field.
In his retirement Sidney made over 150 beautiful toadstool natural edge tables out of many varieties of wood. His tables are in nearly every state in the USA. Sid also helped his brothers (especially Ronald) with field work. He mowed his own lawn up until May of this year. With his great work ethic, he was always looking for something to do or someone he could help.
Every grandchild remembers the special week every year that they stayed at the farm with Sidney and Marion. Grandpa always took time off to take them to a local attraction.
Survivors include his daughter, Judith Foegen of Mansfield, Ohio.; son, David (Lynn) of Rochester, Minn., and daughter, Sandra Lent (Mark) of Gleason, Wis; grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Foegen, Nicole (Lee) Byerly, Christina Rhea, Jeff (Kelly), Marissa (Chad) Shukarey, and Michael Lent; and nine great-grandchildren, Abena, Ariel, Alec, Feona, Celeste, Joe, Kylee, Landon, and Shumitti.
He met his first great-great grandson, Tucker in September. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends and two sisters-in-law, Harriet Myhre and Connie Myhre.
Special thanks to his niece, Amanda Myhre for her years of helping so Sidney could remain on the farm he loved.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gerald; and his siblings, Eunice Gondrezick, Florence Harris, Ronald, Robert, and Dean Myhre.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Caledonia United Methodist Church. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by his service at 11 am. Pastor Jill Diana will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery following the service.
Memorials are suggested to the Caledonia United Methodist Church.
Blessed be his memory.
