Obituary for Frederick Staggemeier


Frederick Staggemeier, 86, of La Crosse, Wis., and formerly of New Albin, Iowa, died April 6, 2026, at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem.

He was born October 11, 1939, in Caledonia, Minn., to Elmer and Erma (Pottratz) Staggemeier. Graduating in 1957, from New Albin High School, his early employment included working and making cheese at the New Albin Cheese Factory.

After leaving this establishment, he attended Coleman Technical Institute for mechanical drafting and later, Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, entering into the tool and die field. Frederick worked with various businesses in the La Crosse, Viroqua, and Richland Center areas until retiring in 2005.

After retirement, he became a Watkins dealer, traveling to many community celebrations. Frederick also served as a school crossing guard in La Crosse. He was a longtime and devoted member of the F.O.E. 1254 of La Crosse-volunteering at eagle club events and also at the Place of Grace.

Survivors include two sisters, Joyce (Ronald) Vonderohe and Lois (Ronald) Weymiller; brother, Robert (Mary) Staggemeier; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Jean Meiners; and great-niece, Nicole Meiners.

Memorial services will be private.
