Obituary for Carol J. Lounsbrough

Carol was born on December 31, 1941, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Glen and Dorothy (Walsh) Anfenson. She attended Aquinas High School, graduating in 1959. She married the love of her life, William Arthur Lounsbrough, on November 26, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Crosse. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage while raising five children and building a family that became Carol’s greatest joy and purpose. Carol devoted her life to her family. She had a remarkable gift for making every holiday, birthday, and family gathering feel special. Her kitchen was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable family favorites—especially her famous deviled eggs and meatballs. Being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was the role she treasured most, and her family always knew they were loved beyond measure.

Carol was fiercely independent, full of determination, and wonderfully talented. She could still do backbends and handstands into her seventies, a testament to her strength and spirited personality. She was an accomplished bowler with a 600 series to her credit, enjoyed golfing, playing pool, and jig dancing, and was always proud of her Irish heritage. Some of her happiest times were spent visiting family in Iowa, where she cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by her extended family.

She was employed at K-Mart in La Crosse for many years and will be remembered by coworkers and customers alike for her cheerfulness and dedication. Carol dedicated many years to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant, helping deliver babies and caring for nursing home residents. After retiring, she continued working as an usher at the La Crosse Center, where she formed many treasured friendships. She loved life’s simple pleasures and was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Green Bay Packers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. If there was a bingo game nearby, chances are Carol was there, hoping to call “Bingo!” She also loved traveling with her dear friends, especially to Las Vegas and along the historic Route 66.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Michael David Lounsbrough; son-in-law, Christopher Mosling; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin Lounsbrough and Laura Jerome-Lounsbrough; brothers-in-law, Herbert (Lillian) Lounsbrough and Melvin (Corrine, Carol) Lounsbrough; sisters-in-law, Marie (Calvin) Cronk, Violet (Earl) Johnson, and Shirley Barton.

She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, William Arthur Lounsbrough; her brother, Gerald Anfenson; her children, Dean (Chris), Debbie (partner, Bryan), David, Donald (Stefani), and Diane (David); her grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin (Julie), Jordan, Colin (Berkana), Jessa (Drew), Josh, Kayse, Eliott, Madison, Amelia, and Bailey; her great-grandchildren, Tavi and Rylan; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives she touched.

Carol’s greatest legacy is the love she poured into her family and friends. She taught those around her the importance of showing up, celebrating life’s moments, and making memories around the dinner table. Her laughter, strength, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family finds comfort in knowing she passed peacefully, surrounded by the people she loved most. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. Father Brian Konopa will celebrate the Mass. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m., until the time of Mass, Tuesday, at the church. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Mirage Sports Bar, 3511 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse.
